LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

I have just deleted all of the "recent comments" that were posted last year but this blog-site is still open for any comments that anyone would like to make about this "entry" or any of the entries that were entered last year.

Feel free to post comments that you would like to make.

The job of webmaster is still open for anyone that would like to take this off my hands.

The trip schedule for next year has been finalized and will be posted to the website after the spring newsletter has been published and delivered to the members.

The only event I'll mention here is the picnic which is scheduled for Sunday 7/8/07 and will be held at the Dodge residence.  Details & directions to be posted later.

BLOG-SITE CHANGE

The following was posted via e-mail to clubmembers:

__________________________________________________________________________________________

For those that may have missed it, here is the address of the blog-site:

There are two types of messages that can be posted to the blog-site: Entries and Comments

ENTRIES
Entries can be best defined as the opening message to open a point of discussion.  Unless I learn otherwise, posting an "entry" is something that can be done by only one person (ME). If someone should post something as a comment that might be worth opening a new "entry" for it, I may do so or someone can request me to do so.

"COMMENTS" (the main purpose of this e-mail)
I have just learned how to remove the problem of needing submitted "comments" to be monitored (CENSORED) before being posted to the blog-site.  That "monitoring" was something that had to  be done by the guy that set up the blog (again, ME).  That's something for which I did NOT want the responsibility. (and there sure as hell haven't been any volunteers )

By removing the restrictive setting on "comments", I'm relieved of the job of playing censor, but I do not lose the ability to go in and delete something that someone might find offensive.

So, if someone believes that something should be removed from that site, that person should simply post a msg to that effect and I'll yank it.  I do not anticipate that situation to occur, because no one in this club that  I know EVER uses foul or
abusive language. Right?? (yeah, right)

Anyway, that's the situation as it now  stands as far as posting "comments".  The blog site hasn't had much activity and that may be because no one saw their msgs showing up on the screen after submitting them. The reason for that being that I never got around to "monitoring" them and allowing them to be posted to the site.

Let's see how much interest will be shown in the blog-site between now and 11/16 (our next meeting night).  By that time, everyone should have formed an opinion as to whether keeping the blog site active is worth the effort.

The web page (http://HVSSC.COM) is another matter altogether and has already received 140 "hits".  That page is something that doesn't really require that much up-dating and seems to be something appreciated by all.  The only change I'm going to make now is to put the blog-site address on it.

Th, th, th, that's all folks.

P.S. I'll put this message on the blog-site as a new "ENTRY".

How to initiate a topic of discussion
Apparently this blog site is limited to only one person that can initiate a new topic of discussion. Guess who that person happens to be?

However, here are no limits to the number of people who may respond to whatever topic may be showing on the message list.  They simply use the "comment" button at the bottom of each msg.

SO, if someone had a particular issue that he or she would like to have brought up on this board, they would probaby have to mention it in a comment to another topic already posted  or send me an e-mail with their thoughts.

I could then copy their message or e-mail (verbatim) into a new entry to be posted on this blogsite  which could then be "commented" upon by any of you reading the message.  I'd also be sure to mention the name of the person whose topic was being presented.

This appears to be a blogsite that is as basic as can be.  What the hell!!!! What do you expect for FREE??????

I suppose the biggest question of all is:

IS THIS REALLY WORTH "FREE"?

(Just remember this comment from my opening msg:

"Hopefully this will turn out to be a new & improved service to members of HVS&SC, although I must admit to having my own personal doubts.")

WELCOME TO ALL MEMBERS AND OTHER VISITORS

Hopefully this will turn out to be a new & improved service to members of HVS&SC, although I must admit to having my own personal doubts.

This is a BLOG!!! For those who have no idea as to what the hell a blog might be, here is as good an explanation as there is:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blog\

And that's probably more than you really wanted to know.

This has been set up primarily for two reasons:

1. IT'S FREE with the site that provided the services to create the website that many of you have already visited.

2. It can provide everyone & anyone the opportunity to come in here and express views on matters concerning the club without using e-mail.  Anyone signed-up to use this service will be able to repond to anyone else's msg and EVERYONE will be able to read those opinions & views.

I'm not about to go into a long message or discussion as just how this blog will work.  That's something that anyone that uses this blog will have to learn on their own.  Trial & error is as good a learning method as any.

Most of you reading this message will probably have learned about this blog as a result of an e-mail that I sent out to all of the members & those friends of other clubs that have traveled with us over the years.

Give it a try and let's see what happens. Nothing ventured; nothing gained. (and it hasn't cost us anything either)

Joe W.

BTW, when it comes to "categories", let's try to keep it to snow issues. etc. and not personalities. I can't handle rejection.
